Silicone Rubberis a rubber in which the main chain consists of silicon and oxygen atoms alternately, and silicon atoms are usually attached with two organic groups. What are the main performance characteristics?
(1) High temperature performance. Silicone rubber is characterized by its high temperature stability. Under high temperatures above 200°C, silicone rubber can still maintain a certain degree of flexibility, resiliency and surface hardness, and no significant changes in mechanical properties.
(2) Low-temperature properties The glass transition temperature of silicone rubber is generally -70 to -50°C, and the special formula can reach -100°C, indicating excellent low-temperature performance.
(3) Si-O-Si bonds in weather-resistant silicone rubber are very stable to oxygen, ozone, and ultraviolet rays, and have excellent weather resistance without any additives.
(4) Electrical performance. Silicone rubber has excellent insulation properties and is very good in corona resistance and arc resistance.
(5) Physical and mechanical properties. The physical and mechanical properties of silicone rubber at room temperature are worse than that of general rubber. However, its physical and mechanical properties are superior to those of general-purpose rubber at high temperatures of 150°C and low temperatures of -50°C.
6) Oil and chemical resistance. Ordinary silicone rubber has moderate oil and solvent resistance.
(7) Gas permeation performance. At room temperature, silicone rubber breathes 30 to 50 times more air, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide gas than natural rubber.
(8) physiological inertia. Silicone rubber is non-toxic, odorless, odorless, does not adhere to human tissues, has anticoagulant effects, and has very little reactivity with body tissues. Particularly suitable as a medical material.
